Louisiana Governor Jindal Attempts to Steer Clear of Common Core Storm

June 18, 2014
Governor Bobby JindalIn the latest of efforts across the country, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has taken action to fight off Federal Intrusion.  By issuance of two executive orders, Governor Jindal rejected PARCC (one of the two assessment consortia, along with SBAC) from the State on the basis of their introduction having not followed the defined process for competitive bidding.  Not necessarily a sexy solution, but certainly one with teeth.
In a second executive order, Governor Jindal also suspended all standards and assessments published in May of 2014.  This order will force all boards, committees, and departments to cease activities involved in the implementation of the Common Core Standards and related Assessments.
